MAFMIC Committees

The Management Committee provides leadership and support to the MAFMIC staff and membership during the annual convention. Members are appointed by the association chairman on an annual basis.

The purpose of the Editorial Advisory Committee is to establish and review the annual editorial calendar and recommend content and content experts (writers) for the newsletter. Membership consists of seven individuals from MAFMIC member companies. Members can serve two consecutive terms of three years each.

Assesses the educational needs of the membership and develops educational opportunities for the members. This committee consists of eleven members, eight from township mutual companies (7-year term) and three from statewide companies (no term limit). Criteria for membership include representation of all areas of the state and past involvement and attendance at association functions.

The Government Affairs Committee is active in monitoring the activities of the legislature on developments and issues on legislation, taxation, education and investments. They are responsible for making recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding the association position on relevant issues and potential legislation to be introduced by the association.

The committee is comprised of fifteen members, ten from MAFMIC member companies and five from the Executive Committee. There is no limit on the number of terms or years any member may serve on this committee with the exception of Executive Committee members. Selection criteria include past involvement with the association, knowledge of the legislative system and prior experience in legislative matters.

This sub-committee was formed to assume the general oversight of the Government Affairs Department and consists of the Government Affairs Committee Chairman, a member of the committee, and the MAFMIC Chairman. Members for 2006-2007 include: Richard Raun (committee chairman), Larry Heidebrink (committee member), and Terry Timm, (MAFMIC Chairman). This sub-committee is appointed by the Government Affairs Committee to assist in solicitation and distribution of funds for the MAFMIC-PAC.

The purpose of the Mutual Assistance Committee is to assist MAFMIC member companies to ensure proper operations of their companies. The committee is comprised of one individual from each of the seven districts, two individuals from a statewide member company, one individual from an associate member company, one representative from the MAFIC Board of Directors and the MAFMIC President. Individuals from member companies can serve two consecutive terms of three years each. Terms will expire at the annual convention.

The purpose of the MAFMIC Policy Committee is to develop and review the TP, PH and TF policies and related endorsements in addition to the development of new policies and/or endorsements as requested by the membership and approved by the Board of Directors.

This committee is comprised of up to 16 members and includes up to 9 positions filled by township mutual company representatives, 4 positions designated for statewide companies, 2 ex officio positions, and one “at large” position along with the MAFMIC Chairman.
An Executive Council is appointed for the purpose of reviewing issues between committee meetings. The council is comprised of 4 members of the committee including the chairman, secretary and two committee members; one member of the council shall be a statewide representative.

The purpose of the Strategic Plan Committee is to analyze short and long-term needs of the association. Committee goals are to assist the Board of Directors, analyze projects assigned by the Board, and provide a venue for research and to provide recommendations to the Board of Directors through the long and short range plans.

This committee is comprised of up to ten members, five from MAFMIC member companies and five from the Executive Committee. Terms expire at the annual convention. Member selection considerations include representation of all areas of the state, representation of companies of varying size, past involvement on committees and interest/attendance at association functions. New members will be appointed by the committee upon the approval of the association chairman.

The Articles & By-laws Committee is a sub-committee of the Strategic Plan Committee. Permanent members are appointed to this sub-committee.
